I always aspired to having my own business. I think you start out wanting to make your own decisions and to create something every day.

Sometimes you discover the business has different plans. You start like that but as you expand and take on staff you realise it isn’t about you anymore, it’s about doing great work for your clients as a team. You want everyone in that team to become an extension of your family and grow into something that gets bigger and better every day.

I wake up happy every day and try and infect as many people with cheer. Stress gets you nowhere. Life is too precious not to be happy and embrace your day.

Honesty and Trust are vital. Everyone makes mistakes, you have to own it and face it head on. Lying gets people nowhere and will always come back to bite you, especially in business. We champion calmness and logic, because they always get you through.

Clients who lie to your face or avoid you, especially where payments are concerned irritate me. All businesses go through up and downs. I personally have the greatest respect for clients who are honest if they are going through a rough patch financially and always do everything I can to help them. But the ones who lie, blame or ignore any kind of communication at these times often become the hardest to work for

I could do my job lying on a desert Island. As long as it had Wi-Fi. Okay, I’m off.

Good communication, honesty and truthfulness from both employees and management are all key. Talk People!

Social media has taken everything in a new direction, but I believe everything that goes around comes around.

Records are making a comeback. Book sales are more popular again too! Perhaps we’ll see a revival of advertising and marketing the way it used to be from days gone by. Or, maybe I’m just getting old and nostalgic.

The world is full of designers. You have to think outside the norm and actually open your eyes to the world. Humour always helps. The best marketing puts a smile in the mind of its audience.

A good client listens. They digest what you have to say and give you great feedback. The very best clients remove ego from the equation too.

Trust, honesty, clarity and fun are the essence of good marketing.

The worst client was back in 1997 when we had just launched. I’m not naming names because I don’t kiss and tell! But let’s just say he was a famous rock star whose wife had set up an online business. The most unnecessary and pedantic changes to that project consumed a whole year. This was when faxes used rolls of thermal paper. She would send so many revisions that every morning the floor was christened with a small tree. She was a lovely person, but boy, she couldn’t make a decision and stick to it.

To be happy, content and fulfilled. To travel and meet new and interesting people, everyone has a story to share on their journey through life, and fact is always better than fiction.

I enjoy hanging out with my family, cooking and reading. Anything from cookery books to travel, biographies and books that explore another country’s culture. Dinner with friends or family is the best way to unwind.

A man asked Gautama Buddha, “I want happiness.” Buddha said, “First remove “I,” that’s Ego, then remove “want,” that’s Desire. See now, you are left with only “Happiness”. Buddha
