Growing up as a child I always had a passion for electronics and programming. This to me was a hobby and I had never given the thought to pursuing my hobbies as a career.
For many years bricklaying was my career, until one day I developed a website that interacted with a popular online game, DayZ. My passion for programming resurfaced and I went back to college and pursued a career in web development.
I consider myself a code junkie, when I am not coding, I’m thinking about coding and always researching ways to better my job. I pay a lot of attention to detail both to the front end and back end of websites.
I bring passion to my role. With passion comes determination and the drive to be the best. If it can’t be done, I will find another way to do it.
For a business to be successful you need three key attributes: passion, determination and drive. You also need the right team who supports your vision. A friendly team who can interact with each other and clients on a professional level is important to success.
The hardest client I have worked with is the client who doesn’t know what they want but they wanted it yesterday.
Time management would have to be the hardest thing about my job. If you can’t manage your time correctly, meeting daily and weekly deadlines becomes a problem.
Good managers and leaders are entrusted with employees whom they must work with to realise objectives. The practice of learning how to manage perception needs to be taken seriously.
The marketing industry will continue to move forward and upwards. Like web development, the marketing industry is ever changing. New technologies are always being developed and the marketing industry adapts to these changes.
Design thinking is best described as a discipline that uses a designer’s sensibility and methods to match people’s needs with what is technologically feasible. This is used to create value and market opportunity.
The best sort of client trusts you and lets you put your professional skills to play. Someone who gives ideas but lets the agency make the final professional decisions.
Every website I build is challenging, only because I challenge myself to be better every day. Every client is different, and the challenging part is to meet their expectations.
The most challenging situation I have had to deal with while developing websites is not receiving the correct brief before developing a site or a particular component. These situations are generally avoidable through continuous communication and dealing with expectations accordingly.
My favourite occupation is definitely a toss-up between beer tasting and web developing…if beer tasting was considered an occupation.
The current state of my mind can be determined by the music I play. While sometimes it’s Fruit Salad by The Wiggles and other times it’s Break Stuff by Limp Bizkit, the majority of the time it is Tubthumping by Chumbawamba.
‘I am one with the code, the code is one with me’
I enjoy plenty of social activities but the one that stands out the most is cricket. I play indoor cricket, club cricket for Runaway Bay, 20/20 Last Man Stands and the odd social game with the lads (the one where the esky is the stumps). I also love fishing: my father and I try to go offshore regularly to do some reef fishing and when fishing fails we go into scales (local fishmonger).
Spending quality time with my family is how I unwind from work. On the odd occasion (every night) I generally have a XXXX gold while researching new web technologies on my laptop.
